Why Choose a 20ft Used Shipping Containers?

A used shipping container can provide substantial enclosed space without the cost of constructing a permanent storage building. Its standardized dimensions also make it relatively easy to transport and position on suitable sites.

Key advantages include:

  • Cost-effective storage solution
  • Strong steel construction
  • Approximately 20ft long
  • Secure enclosed storage
  • Weather-resistant design when properly maintained
  • Suitable for commercial and personal use

20ft Used Shipping Container for Sale

If you are searching for a 20ft used shipping container for sale, it is important to compare more than just the purchase price. Factors such as structural condition, doors, flooring, roof, seals, corrosion, previous use, and delivery costs can affect the overall value.

A quality used container can provide years of useful service when properly maintained and placed on a suitable foundation.

Common Uses for a 20ft Used Container

Secure Storage

One of the most popular uses is general storage. Businesses and homeowners can use a 20ft container to store equipment, tools, furniture, inventory, building materials, and other suitable goods.

Construction Site Storage

Contractors can use 20ft used containers for construction sites to keep tools, equipment, materials, and supplies organized and protected from weather and unauthorized access.

Agricultural Storage

Farmers and agricultural businesses can use containers for suitable equipment, supplies, tools, and other farm-related storage needs.

Business Inventory

Retailers and small businesses can use a 20ft container as additional inventory storage when their existing warehouse or commercial space is limited.

Workshops

With appropriate modifications, ventilation, electrical systems, insulation, and local approvals, a used shipping container can potentially be converted into a workshop or work area.

Mobile Storage

Because shipping containers are designed for transportation, they can be moved when business or project requirements change, provided suitable transportation equipment is available.

Features of a Used 20ft Shipping Container

Specifications vary depending on the manufacturer, age, previous use, and condition. A typical 20ft container may feature:

  • Heavy-duty steel construction
  • Double cargo doors
  • Locking hardware
  • Steel side panels
  • Durable cargo floor
  • Weather-resistant exterior
  • Standardized container dimensions
  • Forklift or handling provisions depending on design

Before purchasing, confirm the exact dimensions and specifications of the individual container.

Shipping Container Condition Grades

Used shipping containers can differ considerably in condition. Sellers may use different grading systems, so buyers should ask for a detailed description.

A used container may show:

  • Cosmetic dents
  • Surface rust
  • Scratches
  • Faded paint
  • Minor repairs
  • Floor wear
  • Previous shipping marks

These characteristics do not necessarily prevent a container from being useful for storage, but the buyer should understand the condition before purchasing.

For specialized cargo or international shipping applications, additional inspection and certification may be required.

Affordable 20ft Used Containers for Businesses

For small businesses, a used 20ft container can provide additional storage without requiring a major warehouse expansion. Retailers, contractors, landscapers, tradespeople, and other businesses can use containers to organize inventory and equipment.

Adding secure storage can also help businesses separate frequently used equipment from other inventory and improve organization around a commercial property or job site.

20ft Used Shipping Container for Storage

A 20ft storage container offers a practical enclosed space for businesses and homeowners who need additional capacity.

Common storage applications include:

  • Tools
  • Equipment
  • Furniture
  • Business inventory
  • Construction materials
  • Garden equipment
  • Seasonal items
  • Agricultural supplies
  • Commercial supplies

Always ensure that stored goods are appropriate for the container environment and that ventilation, moisture control, and security requirements are properly addressed.

Customizing a Used 20ft Shipping Container

Used shipping containers can often be modified for specific applications. Depending on local regulations and the expertise of the modification company, possible upgrades may include:

  • Additional personnel doors
  • Windows
  • Shelving
  • Electrical systems
  • Lighting
  • Insulation
  • Ventilation
  • Flooring
  • Security upgrades
  • Interior partitions
  • Exterior paint

If a container will be converted into a workplace, office, retail unit, or other occupied structure, professional design and applicable permits may be required.

Benefits of Buying Used Instead of New

A used 20ft shipping container can be an attractive alternative to a new container for buyers whose primary requirement is affordable storage.

Potential advantages include:

Lower initial investment: Used containers can cost less than new units, depending on condition and market availability.

Proven durability: Used containers have already been exposed to transportation conditions and can continue to provide useful service when structurally sound.

Versatile applications: A used container can be adapted for storage, workshops, agricultural uses, construction sites, and other suitable purposes.

Fast availability: Depending on local inventory, used units may be available for relatively quick delivery.

20ft Used Shipping Container for Construction Projects

Construction companies frequently need secure on-site storage for tools, materials, safety equipment, and supplies. A 20ft used shipping container for construction can provide an enclosed storage area close to the worksite.

The container can also help keep equipment organized and reduce the need to transport certain supplies between the job site and a remote warehouse.

Delivery and Site Preparation

Before ordering a 20ft used container, make sure your property is prepared for delivery.

Consider:

The delivery method depends on the supplier and available equipment. Ask the seller about site-access requirements before scheduling delivery.
