20ft Reefer Container for Sale

A 20ft Reefer Container is a specialized refrigerated shipping container designed for businesses that need reliable temperature-controlled transportation and storage. Also known as a 20ft refrigerated container or 20ft RF container, it combines an insulated cargo space with an integrated refrigeration system to help protect temperature-sensitive products throughout storage and transportation.

For businesses in the USA and Europe, a 20ft reefer offers a practical solution for cold-chain logistics, food distribution, agricultural products, pharmaceutical applications, seafood, meat, dairy products, flowers, beverages, and other temperature-sensitive goods.

Standard 20ft reefer containers have external dimensions of approximately 6.058 m × 2.438 m × 2.591 m (20 ft × 8 ft × 8 ft 6 in). Representative specifications include around 27–28.6 m³ of internal capacity, although exact dimensions and capacity vary by manufacturer and refrigeration equipment.

Why Choose a 20ft Refrigerated Container?

A conventional dry shipping container is designed primarily for general cargo. A reefer container is different because it is built specifically for cargo requiring controlled temperatures.

The refrigeration unit actively regulates the internal environment, while insulated walls, ceiling, floor, and doors reduce heat transfer. This makes a 20ft Reefer Container particularly valuable for companies managing products that can deteriorate when exposed to excessive heat or freezing conditions.

Depending on the refrigeration equipment, standard reefer units can commonly operate across a temperature range around -30°C to +30°C, although the exact operating range should always be confirmed for the individual unit before purchase.

Applications of a 20ft Reefer Container

1. Food & Beverage Storage

A refrigerated container is an excellent option for businesses handling temperature-sensitive food products. Potential applications include:

  • Fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Meat and poultry
  • Fish and seafood
  • Dairy products
  • Frozen foods
  • Prepared meals
  • Beverages
  • Bakery ingredients
  • Chocolate and temperature-sensitive confectionery

Reefer containers are widely used in temperature-controlled supply chains for products such as fruit, vegetables, dairy, meat, and other perishables.

2. Pharmaceutical & Healthcare Applications

Temperature-controlled containers can also support pharmaceutical and healthcare logistics where products require controlled storage conditions.

Potential applications include:

  • Pharmaceutical products
  • Laboratory materials
  • Certain vaccines and biological products
  • Temperature-sensitive medical supplies
  • Research materials

Important: pharmaceutical applications require the appropriate equipment, monitoring, validation, certification, and operating procedures for the specific product.

3. Agriculture & Fresh Produce

Farmers, growers, exporters, wholesalers, and food distributors can use a 20ft refrigerated container to help maintain controlled conditions for fresh produce.

The container can be useful for:

  • Fruit storage
  • Vegetable storage
  • Flowers
  • Fresh herbs
  • Agricultural exports
  • Short-term cold storage
  • Distribution staging

4. Seafood & Frozen Products

Seafood wholesalers, processors, restaurants, supermarkets, and distributors can benefit from refrigerated storage for fish, shrimp, shellfish, and other temperature-sensitive products.

5. Commercial Cold Storage

A 20ft reefer can also serve as an additional cold-storage facility when a warehouse needs extra refrigerated capacity.

This makes it useful for:

  • Supermarkets
  • Restaurants
  • Catering companies
  • Food wholesalers
  • Cold-chain distributors
  • Farms
  • Food processors
  • Hospitality businesses

20ft Reefer Container for USA Buyers

For buyers across the United States, a 20ft refrigerated container can provide flexible cold-storage capacity without requiring the construction of a permanent refrigerated building.

Businesses can use it for temporary storage, distribution operations, agricultural facilities, food processing, events, restaurants, and commercial inventory.

Before purchasing, US buyers should confirm:

  • Available electrical supply
  • Refrigeration-unit requirements
  • Local installation requirements
  • Container condition
  • CSC/inspection status where applicable
  • Delivery access
  • Ground preparation
  • Temperature requirements
  • Warranty and service availability

20ft Reefer Container for European Buyers

For customers in Europe, the 20ft reefer is well suited to cold-chain distribution, food logistics, agricultural operations, seafood businesses, pharmaceutical supply chains, and commercial refrigerated storage.

European buyers should verify:

  • Electrical requirements
  • Local regulations
  • CSC documentation where applicable
  • Refrigeration equipment specifications
  • Transport and delivery requirements
  • Site access
  • Available servicing
  • Temperature-monitoring requirements

European reefer fleets commonly use 20ft refrigerated equipment for temperature-controlled cargo, with exact technical specifications varying by fleet and manufacturer.

New vs. Used 20ft Reefer Containers

New 20ft Reefer Container

A new reefer may be preferred by customers seeking:

  • Modern refrigeration technology
  • Cleaner interior condition
  • Lower wear and tear
  • Updated components
  • Longer expected service life
  • Better suitability for demanding commercial operations

Used 20ft Reefer Container

A used reefer can provide an economical alternative for buyers and resellers.

When purchasing used equipment, inspect:

  • Refrigeration-unit operation
  • Compressor condition
  • Evaporator and condenser
  • Door seals
  • Insulation
  • Flooring
  • Interior panels
  • Exterior structure
  • Electrical components
  • Temperature-control system
  • Previous repairs
  • Maintenance records

The condition of the refrigeration machinery is particularly important because the cooling system is one of the most valuable components of the container.

Benefits for Wholesalers and Resellers

The 20ft Reefer Container is also attractive to wholesalers, container dealers, equipment resellers, logistics companies, and commercial storage suppliers.

Resellers can target customers searching for:

“20ft reefer containers for sale,” “used refrigerated containers,” “refrigerated shipping containers,” “cold storage containers,” and “20ft refrigerated containers near me.”

A well-maintained reefer with verified refrigeration performance, documentation, and transparent specifications can be marketed to multiple industries.

Key Features to Look For

When evaluating a 20ft reefer container, buyers should consider:

Integrated Refrigeration Unit

The built-in refrigeration system is designed to actively control cargo temperature.

Heavy-Duty Insulation

Insulated construction helps reduce heat transfer and supports temperature stability.

T-Bar Flooring

Many reefer containers use specialized T-bar flooring that allows refrigerated air to circulate beneath cargo.

Stainless Steel or Aluminum Interior

Depending on the model, interior materials may be selected for durability, hygiene, and resistance to demanding operating environments.

Secure Cargo Doors

Reefer doors are designed to provide a strong seal and help minimize temperature loss.

Temperature Control

Modern reefer machinery can provide precise temperature settings, but actual performance depends on the specific refrigeration unit, cargo, ambient conditions, loading practices, and maintenance.

Why the 20ft Size Is Popular

The 20ft format provides a useful balance between capacity, transportation flexibility, and operating costs.

Compared with larger refrigerated containers, a 20ft reefer may be particularly attractive when:

  • Cargo volumes are moderate
  • Weight is more important than maximum cubic capacity
  • Space at the storage site is limited
  • A business needs supplemental cold storage
  • A customer wants a smaller initial investment
  • Multiple smaller refrigerated units are preferred

A typical 20ft reefer provides roughly 28 m³ of nominal internal volume, although usable cargo volume can be lower depending on the load line and equipment design.

Important Buying Considerations

Before ordering a 20ft Reefer Container for Sale, ask the supplier for complete product information, including:

  1. Exact external and internal dimensions
  2. Refrigeration-unit manufacturer and model
  3. Operating temperature range
  4. Electrical requirements
  5. Refrigeration operating hours
  6. Container manufacturing year
  7. Current condition
  8. Maintenance history
  9. CSC plate/documentation where applicable
  10. Floor condition
  11. Door-seal condition
  12. Insulation condition
  13. Maximum gross weight
  14. Maximum payload
  15. Delivery options
  16. Warranty terms
  17. Available inspection reports

Technical specifications can vary significantly between individual reefer units, so published figures should be treated as representative rather than a substitute for the actual container’s documentation.

Order 20ft Reefer Containers in Bulk

For wholesalers, importers, exporters, logistics companies, container dealers, and resellers, purchasing multiple 20ft refrigerated containers can provide a scalable solution for commercial cold-chain operations.

Bulk buyers can request information about:

  • Available quantities
  • Container condition
  • Refrigeration equipment
  • Inspection reports
  • Technical specifications
  • Shipping options
  • Delivery locations
  • Bulk pricing
  • Documentation
  • Warranty and after-sales support

Whether you need one unit for your business or multiple units for resale, selecting the right reefer specifications is essential.

Conclusion

A 20ft Reefer Container is a versatile solution for businesses that require dependable temperature-controlled storage and transportation. Its insulated construction, integrated refrigeration technology, compact 20ft footprint, and broad commercial applications make it an attractive option for food distributors, agricultural businesses, seafood companies, pharmaceutical logistics, restaurants, wholesalers, and resellers.

For buyers in the USA and Europe, choosing the right refrigerated container means looking beyond price. Check the refrigeration system, electrical requirements, temperature range, structural condition, documentation, insulation, flooring, and delivery options before making a purchase.

If you’re searching for a 20ft Reefer Container for Sale, a properly inspected and accurately specified unit can provide valuable cold-storage capacity for both immediate business use and resale opportunities.
