20ft Open Sides Container for Sale

Looking for a 20ft Open Sides Container for Sale that provides easier access to cargo, equipment, stock, and materials? A 20ft open sides container is a versatile shipping and storage solution designed with large side-opening doors that make loading and unloading more convenient than with a conventional container.

With access along one or both long sides, depending on the configuration, an open side shipping container can be especially useful for businesses that regularly handle bulky, wide, heavy, or frequently accessed goods. These containers are widely suited to logistics, construction, retail, manufacturing, events, agriculture, warehousing, and commercial storage applications.

What Is a 20ft Open Sides Container?

A 20ft open sides container is a specialized shipping container designed with additional side access. Unlike a standard container that primarily uses doors at one end, an open sides model provides large side openings that allow users to load and unload cargo from the container’s longer side.

This configuration can improve accessibility when forklifts, pallet trucks, cranes, or other handling equipment need to reach cargo inside the container.

The exact side-door arrangement varies by model. Some containers have a full side opening, while others may feature multiple side-opening doors.

20ft Open Sides Container Features

Depending on the model and specification, a 20ft open sides container may include:

  • Approximately 20ft container length
  • Standard container width
  • Large side-opening doors
  • End cargo doors
  • Heavy-duty steel construction
  • Reinforced corner posts
  • Durable container flooring
  • Locking door mechanisms
  • Weather-resistant construction
  • Forklift-accessible loading options
  • Standard container handling points
  • Suitable configurations for storage or transportation

Exact specifications vary, so buyers should confirm the dimensions, door configuration, payload rating, tare weight, and condition of the individual container before purchasing.

Why Buy a 20ft Open Sides Container?

A 20ft Open Sides Container for Sale can provide several practical advantages for businesses and organizations that need improved cargo accessibility.

Easier Loading and Unloading

The large side opening makes it easier to access goods without moving all the cargo through the end doors. This can be particularly useful when storing pallets, machinery, equipment, or bulky items.

Improved Cargo Accessibility

Side access allows users to reach different sections of the container more conveniently. This can be valuable for businesses that frequently need to retrieve or organize stored inventory.

Ideal for Bulky Goods

Large side doors can make it easier to load items that are difficult to maneuver through conventional container doors.

Flexible Storage

A 20ft open side container can provide secure enclosed space for equipment, stock, materials, tools, and other suitable goods.

Useful for Commercial Applications

Businesses can use open side containers for inventory storage, distribution, construction materials, retail stock, event equipment, agricultural supplies, and more.

Common Uses for a 20ft Open Sides Shipping Container

Construction Site Storage

Construction companies can use open side containers to store tools, building materials, machinery accessories, electrical supplies, and other equipment close to the job site.

The large side access can make it easier for workers and handling equipment to reach stored materials.

Warehouse and Inventory Storage

Retailers, wholesalers, distributors, and manufacturers can use a 20ft open side shipping container as additional storage when warehouse capacity is limited.

Side access can also make stock rotation and inventory organization more convenient.

Retail and Commercial Applications

With suitable modifications and local approvals, open side containers can be adapted for temporary retail areas, product displays, service points, kiosks, and commercial storage.

Agricultural Storage

Farmers and agricultural businesses can use these containers to store tools, equipment, spare parts, supplies, and other materials.

Event and Exhibition Storage

Event companies can use open side containers to organize staging equipment, furniture, displays, supplies, and other event materials.

Industrial Equipment Storage

Manufacturers and industrial businesses can benefit from the wide side access when storing machinery components, tools, equipment, and other large items.

20ft Open Sides Container vs. Standard 20ft Container

The main difference between a standard 20ft container and a 20ft open sides container is accessibility.

Feature 20ft Standard Container 20ft Open Sides Container
End doors Yes Usually yes
Large side access No Yes
Easy side loading Limited Yes
Bulky cargo access More restricted Improved
Inventory accessibility Standard Enhanced
Storage applications Yes Yes
Commercial applications Yes Yes

A standard container may be sufficient for conventional cargo, while an open side configuration can be useful when frequent side access is an important requirement.

20ft Open Sides Container Dimensions

The exact dimensions depend on the manufacturer and configuration. A typical 20ft container is approximately:

  • External length: 20 ft
  • External width: 8 ft
  • External height: approximately 8 ft 6 in
  • Internal length: approximately 19 ft 4 in
  • Internal width: approximately 7 ft 8 in
  • Internal height: approximately 7 ft 10 in

Open side configurations may have different door-opening dimensions and structural arrangements. Always request the manufacturer’s exact technical specifications before purchase.

New and Used 20ft Open Side Containers

Depending on availability, customers may find new, one-trip, and used 20ft open side containers for sale.

New or One-Trip Containers

New or one-trip containers are generally preferred by buyers looking for newer equipment and a cleaner appearance. They can be suitable for commercial storage, specialized transportation, and modification projects.

Used Open Side Containers

Used containers can provide a practical solution for buyers who prioritize storage functionality and budget. However, condition can vary considerably.

Before buying a used unit, inspect:

  • Side-door operation
  • Door seals
  • Locking mechanisms
  • Container floor
  • Roof
  • Side panels
  • End doors
  • Corner posts
  • Frame condition
  • Signs of corrosion or structural damage

What to Consider Before Buying a 20ft Open Sides Container

Before ordering your container, consider the following factors.

Side Door Configuration

Confirm whether the container has a full-length side opening, multiple side doors, or another configuration. Make sure the opening meets your cargo-handling requirements.

Cargo Size and Weight

Measure the cargo before purchase. Consider length, width, height, weight, and the equipment that will be used to load it.

Container Condition

For used containers, request clear information about the unit’s condition and inspect the structural components, doors, floor, roof, and seals.

Site Access

Although the container itself is 20ft long, delivery vehicles and handling equipment require additional space. Check road access, gates, turning space, overhead clearance, and the placement area.

Intended Use

Determine whether you need the container primarily for shipping, storage, construction, retail, agriculture, or modification. The intended application can affect the appropriate specification.

Certification and Documentation

If the container is intended for international sea freight, verify that it has the appropriate certification and documentation for the intended service.

Benefits for Businesses

For businesses managing physical inventory, accessibility can be just as important as storage capacity.

A 20ft open sides container for sale can help create additional storage space while allowing personnel to access goods from the side. This can be particularly useful where the container is positioned alongside a loading area, warehouse, workshop, or retail facility.

Businesses can use open side containers to:

  • Expand storage capacity
  • Organize inventory
  • Store tools and equipment
  • Protect materials from outdoor exposure
  • Create temporary stock areas
  • Support construction operations
  • Store event equipment
  • Manage seasonal inventory

Delivery and Placement

Proper delivery planning is essential when purchasing an open sides container.

Before delivery, make sure the site has:

  • Suitable ground conditions
  • Adequate vehicle access
  • Sufficient turning space
  • Appropriate overhead clearance
  • Enough room to open the side doors
  • A level placement area
  • Safe clearance around the container

Importantly, allow sufficient space on the side where the doors will open. A container may fit physically into a location but still be difficult to use if the side-opening doors cannot be fully opened.

How to Maintain a 20ft Open Sides Container

Regular inspection and maintenance can help extend the useful life of a shipping container.

Check the roof, walls, doors, seals, floor, and frame periodically for damage or corrosion. Keep door tracks and locking components clean and properly maintained.

If the container is used outdoors, ensure water can drain away from the container and avoid prolonged contact with standing water.

Any significant structural repairs or modifications should be completed by appropriately qualified professionals.
